Musée de la Résistance en ligne 1940-1945

AERI (formerly Association for Studies on the Domestic Resistance) has been working for more than ten years on CD-ROMs (or DVD-ROMs) on the local Resistance. Since January 1st, 2012, it is within the Foundation of the Resistance that the AERI department continues its activities.

Thanks to this operation, it managed to: build a dynamic network of several hundred people all over France (teachers, resisters, archivists, historians, students, academics, curators, representatives of communities and associations ...); acquire a know-how by setting up:
- a methodology of networking, via an intranet site,
- a single administration console, the online application,
- skills available to teams (lawyer, cartographer, foreign researchers ...); to collect a considerable documentary mass:
- more than 30 000 documents (posters, leaflets, letters, newspapers, photos, sound documents or film archives ...),
- 25,000 historical records (thematic, bibliographic), 50,000 names, 19,000 facts, and more than 6,000 referenced sites.
- 20,000 archival and bibliographic references.
Hence the idea of creating, in conjunction with many partners (foundations, ministries, communities, museums, archives, associations, research centers ...), a reference portal site on the period: the Museum of Resistance online (1940-1945).

Thanks to the Internet tool and the technologies that are attached to it, the Museum of Resistance Online is a site:
- resolutely public,
- visible because of national and international dimension,
- promoting digital cultural content by gathering resources, disseminating information and intelligently redirecting the visitor to the appropriate interlocutor.

(*) Interface where all the teams of the AERI network enter the contents of their future CD-ROM or dvd-rom (historical files, hypertext links, media, sources, index places and people ...).

Multiple objectives:

Register this website within the territories.
Resistance is basically a phenomenon of local nature. The populations have suffered from the interventions of the occupier. They saw the resisters at work. They keep a very lively memory (collective memory, family or places).
Safeguard a heritage threatened by the disappearance of the actors, the uncertain future of some collections (small associative museums, family archives ...), the danger of seeing disappear in our daily landscape the traces of the Resistance (places of life and action of the resisters, places of memory ...).

Make available immediately and permanently a vast and coherent virtual collection on the history of the Resistance, from a multitude of public and private archives in France and abroad.
The absence of physical constraints allows the perpetual enrichment of this "collection".

Make this museum the portal reference site on the Resistance, by:
pooling the Virtual Museum's own resources (exhibition spaces, databases, tools, etc.), the skills (knowledge and know-how) and achievements of each of the partners,
facilitating exchanges within the network of partners, but also and especially with the general public.

To transmit this story to the greatest number.
The fact of working on the Internet affects a very wide audience (democratization of knowledge), especially young people, familiar with multimedia.

Bring a new perspective on the processing and exploitation of documents (paper archives, objects, audio and film archives, animated maps ...).
In the exhibition spaces will be presented contextualized documents, commented on within the courses ("virtual paths"). The access will be resolutely multimedia, with this possibility of "digging" to go to more complex contents.
