Musée Départemental de la Résistance Haut-Savoyarde
The Musée Départemental de la Résistance Haut-Savoyarde (Haut-Savoyarde Departmental Museum of Resistance) presents the history of resistance, deportation, and liberation in the region during the Second World War. This includes wartime civilian life in the department and the nearby city of Annecy as well as the activities of the Gilères Maquis, active on this region’s Gilères plateau. The small museum was originally created in 1964 by an association of veteran resistance members and Gilères Maquis within a repurposed shepard’s cottage, and continues to use this building today. The permanent exhibition includes documents and photographs documenting local resistance and Maquis activities as well as informational panels and a documentary film.
Located next to the museum is the Nécropole Nationale des Gilères (Gilères National Necropolis) or Site de Morette, the resting place for 105 fallen resistance members from the Haut-Savoyarde region.
