Ecomuseo della Resistenza
The Ecomuseo della Resistenza (Ecomuseum of Resistance) in the town of Coazze presents the history of resistance, partisan activity, and liberation in the Sangone Valley (Val Sangone) from 1943 to 1945. An exhibition includes weapons, clothing and uniforms, other objects, written records, photographs, and audio testimony which document German and fascist occupation, resistance activities, repression and reprisals on local civilian populations, and local liberation. Attention is given to what the museum describes as the “supranational unity” of resistance, as local partisan groups expanded to include former prisoners of war: Soviets, Poles, Czechoslovakians, British, and Americans.
The exhibition is located in the former Coazze town hall, which also houses a tourist information office and a soil laboratory. The museum forms a part of INTEREG Europe’s Mémoire des Alpes – Chemins de la Liberté (Memory of the Alps – Trails of Freedom) initiative, which connects significant places of memory in the region across the French, Swiss, and Italian borders.
