Museo della Resistenza e degli Undici Martiri

The Museo della Resistenza e degli Undici Martiri (Museum of Resistance and the Eleven Martyrs) in Palestrina presents the history of wartime resistance in the community under German and fascist occupation from 1943-44. Palestrina was a significant point near the front lines as the Allied advance approached Rome and landings occurred at Anzio: the town suffered aerial bombardment, and saw partisan activity. On May 28, 1944, German troops retreating along the Via Vigesimo were attacked by partisans and a German soldier was killed. In retaliation, German soldiers gathered ten youth from a nearby tavern run by the family of Agapito Pinci; they were executed outside the house, as was Pinci who remained with them.

The museum is located inside the house and contains several displays on the wartime experiences of local inhabitants as well as the massacre of the eleven martyrs, including a painting by a local artist depicting the event.
