Musée de la Résistance de Limoges
This museum illustrates the values of citizenship and solidarity brought by the Resistance during the Second World War. Dedicated to all those who sacrificed themselves to defend the fundamental values of the Republic, its vocation is to make the memory alive by offering a place of pedagogy and dissemination of information, especially for young audiences. Located in the former convent of the Sisters of Providence of the seventeenth and eighteenth century rue Neuve Saint-Etienne, in the heart of the district of the City, it offers on 1400 m2 a museum tour tracing rigorously the historical facts of the Second World War and particularly Resistance, occupation and deportation in Haute-Vienne. Declined in ten sequences, from 1939, this dynamic course follows from the scientific program elaborated by Olivier Wieviorka, historian of national fame and specialist of the Second World War, Pascal Plas, historian specialist of the Second World War in the Center-West, and Annie Martin, director of the museum.
Two trays host the permanent collections, consisting of nearly 800 pieces. The museum also includes a temporary exhibition room, an educational room for organizing events for school children, and a documentation center open to researchers.
