Museo Casa Galimberti
The Museo Casa Galimberti (Galimberti House Museum) in Cuneo is the preserved home of Tancredi Achille Giuseppe Olimpio Galimberti, commonly known as Duccio Galimberti (1906-1944). An anti-fascist lawyer before the Second World War, Galimberti is recognised as a hero of the Italian Resistance and a key figure of the Piedmont Resistance for his wartime partisan activities. Following the dismissal of Mussolini and the Italian-Allied Armistice, Galimberti advocated for military opposition to German occupation and coordinated the formation of early partisan groups in Pedmont; in April 1944, he assumed command of partisan operations in Cuneo and surrounding areas. On November 28, 1944, Galimberti was captured by German forces in Turin; following interrogation and torture, he was shot by his captors on December 3.
Galimberti’s house is preserved as a museum to both his life and to partisan activities and liberation in Cuneo and Piedmont. The house’s original furnishings, including artwork, provide visitors an example of period Italy; archives contain records on Galimberti’s activities and the partisan units he oversaw.
