Musée de la Reddition
The Musée de la Reddition (Museum of Surrender) in Reims commemorates the end of the Second World War in Europe at the actual site of surrender between Allied and German commanders at 2:41 AM on May 7, 1945. The museum is housed in the Lycée Roosevelt, at that time the Collège Moderne et Technique de Reims, which in May 1945 served as headquarters for the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) and General Eisenhower; it was therefore at this location that the first unconditional surrender of all German forces was signed by German General Alfred Jodl and Allied representatives on May 7, 1945.
The museum has preserved the room in which the surrender was signed as a historic monument open to visitors. In addition, a permanent exhibit presents the city’s wartime history.
